Our vision
This week Anduril’s EagleEye steals the show with it’s augmented reality experience for soldiers in combat situations. This technology looks straight out of a video game and our thumbnail is a real clip from their demonstration video. Working on this must be very challenging but exciting. Would be great to sit down with an engineer that is working on the hardware or software to see what it’s like to build something from 2050.
Project Moohan leaks show us that the biggest players are all circling similar design patterns and device capabilities. The key will be how user friendly the OS is as well as what applications and differentiating experiences are available at launch. Price will also be a big factor but since it’s the first version of this device I expect sales to be minimal just like the Vision Pro. It will be a big test for Android XR though which could be a big opportunity for Google if executed well.
OpenAI’s latest announcement with Broadcom is highlighting the perceived scarcity of compute when 1 company is partnering with 3 giants to create as many chips as possible to suit their needs. We are entering a new era of computational possibilities that needs chips as well as energy to actualize their vision. Whether or not all of this will come together as expected in the timeframe they want is up for debate but there is certainly enough capital being put together to give it a good go.
xAI continues to be a sleeper pick working on a multitude of advancements for real world simulation. This will undoubtedly help their autonomous driving ambitions but could also be a play at one of the biggest markets on the planet - gaming. If they can redefine how video games are built to not only accelerate the development process but also allow for more iteration and creativity along the way that could be a big disruption to established players.
At the end of the day the biggest companies continue to bring sci-fi into reality whether it’s our very own C-3P0 to do our laundry or a video game style heads up display for soldiers on the battlefield. These real world products were only made with practical or special effects for the last 50 years and they are slowly inching toward our doorstep. Well I hope most people don’t need Anduril’s EagleEye at home, but would be pretty bad home defense tech.
